Investor's Business Daily
This west-coast competitor with Dow Jones publications stands up well in terms of financial news, statistical information, and market results. It is published every business day. Among its features are:
• News summaries. An easy-to-use, one-page section called "To make a long story short" provides readers with a glance at significant market news and trends.
• Economic summary. An in-depth summary of economic trends and news.
• Industry-specific coverage. Trends within industries, including visual summaries of industry revenues, leading companies, earnings, and special economic factors helping or hurting the industry.
• Stock listings with extra indicators. The paper includes a daily list, including highlighted NYSE 60 stocks showing the greatest increase in volume. Listings also provide information not given in other financial newspapers including: EPS rank, showing relative growth in earnings per share compared to other listed companies; relative price strength, ranking stock price stability compared to other listed stocks; changes in volume and price, ranked in comparative form; and a weekly industry group relative strength (Monday issues only). These indicators provide you with ranking mechanisms in addition to standard tests. They relate to price, volume, and stability for the most part, with some fundamental value as well.
• Charts for stocks in the news. A summary of the price, volume, and PE ratio shown in chart form for stocks hitting new high price levels. The visual aid helps you to see the relative indicators for these issues.
• Coverage of other markets. Like The Wall Street Journal and Barron's, this paper provides complete listings for all major exchanges and for mutual funds, bonds, and other listings.
• Statistical summaries. A daily summary of price and volume for all major indexes and markets; price levels on an industry-wide basis; 14 interesting psychological indicators; and comparative world stock market movements.
• Company index. A listing of companies mentioned in articles and cross-reference to the page.
Investor's Business Daily does not contain as much in-depth news as the Dow Jones papers. However, it is at least as visual if not more so, including numerous comparative charts for specialized markets and emphasizing price and volume trends.
