Barron's
This is a weekly paper, also published by the Dow Jones Company. For those who do not want to pay for a daily paper, Barron's offers an acceptable and comprehensive weekly summary. It includes many of the valuable statistical summaries supplied by the WSJ, but with the perspective of a full week rather than day to day. For many, this is not only enough, but preferable.
Features include:
• Editorials and opinion. Many observations and opinion columns are included, such as "Up and Down Wall Street," "Review and Preview," "The Trader," "Trading Points," and "International Trader."
• Index to companies. Like the WSJ, Barron's includes a comprehensive cross-reference between companies named in stories and the page in each edition.
Feature stories. Articles of interest to investors. Unlike the WSJ, which tends to emphasize news, Barron's includes stories of broader interest and with more information. Summary, winners and losers. This page includes interesting statistical summaries for the week, including biggest movers up and down, and most active in terms of percentage price change, share volume, and dollar volume. Statistics are provided for the NYSE, AMEX, and Nasdaq exchanges.
Instructions on reading stock tables. Includes detailed explanations of stock ticker code symbols and market transaction symbols, enabling all readers—even novices—to grasp highly abbreviated listings conveniently and quickly.
Offer of free corporate reports. Barron's offers free annual or quarterly information for companies, by displaying a three-leaf clover signal.*
Comprehensive stock listings. The week's trading information is supplied for all exchanges, showing weekly activity rather than daily activity. This includes the NYSE, American, and Nasdaq exchanges, as well as foreign markets. Complete listings of bonds, futures, mutual funds, and other specialized markets are also provided every week, including valuable sidebars for major movers, volume in largest listings, and other information. Market laboratory. This section provides interesting statistical summaries and indicators, including half-hourly averages for the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) for the entire week; movement in all of the major indexes; advance and decline volume; block transaction summary; the PE and yield for indexes overall; new high and low price levels for the week; listings arranged by industry groups; a complete summary of economic indicators; dividend information, including payments, stock splits, and increases in dividend rates; trading suspensions and new applications to be listed; and name changes. In short, Barron's includes all of the useful fundamental, technical, and economic indicators for the week that you might want to accumulate and use in your own program.
